Muay Thai has gone through changes compared to the old one. The Old Muay Thai known as Muay Thai Boran used wit in the fight. However, it does not mean that the recent way of Muay Thai is all about strength only.

The training process of Muay Thai was developed near the late 1920s and 1930s. The innovation of punch bags and balls took place and gyms were established. Usage of gloves of training and contest became a standard. Muay Thai is not only for self-protection, but also considered as a form of pastime. It is a favorite sport for many people. Almost all the villages held prize fights. People from all over went to join Muay Thai camp in Thailand.

Muay Thai training in Thailand is basically based on your level of Muay Thai. The usual program of 2 hours consists of the warm up or stretch activity, followed by a run of 1 to 10 kilometers, skipping of around 15 minutes, bag work of 3 rounds, shadow boxing of at least 3 rounds, pad work of also 3 rounds, 3 rounds of clinching or sparring, fitness, another 2 rounds of shadow boxing and finally stretching for cooling down.

The size of the ring of Muay Thai is now the same as the Western boxing, which is 24 square foot. The ring’s floor is wooden covered with canvas matting. Since 1920s, the four corners of the ring are allied with the help of the points of a compass and colors are designated to the four sides pointing North-West in red, South-East in blue, and the rest two of North-East and South-West in white. The corner that has the red North-West points is allocated to the defending participant considering being an advantage.

Muay Thai has transformed from being an art of battlefield into a famous sports. It has been selected by Asian Games competition as an official sports and it might soon be selected by the Olympic sports.
